Haunted Castles

Chillingham CastleHaunted castles are one such type of building that people almost expect to be haunted, even more so than the classic Haunted house.

The main reason so many castles have ghost stories behind them is because of their age and history (bloody battles, family fall outs etc) therefore increasing chances of old residents wanting to revisit, or ex-inhabitants still grounded with a grudge to settle...

The 1500's were prime for castle building in the UK and the way of life then was perfect for the creation of ghosts, torture, imprisonment, battles, suicides and executions were common place and these are ideal situations for people to linger in spirit form.

If you know of a castle that isn't in the list and thought to be haunted then please click Here to submit a new location. We need your help to make this as complete a collection as possible, thank you - the Haunted Hovel team!
