The price for this piece of kit can be quite nasty however, with the average price being between $250 to $700.

Barometer

Barometer

Some people believe that ghosts can effect things in the smallest way, to small for humans to naturally detect and one of these things is pressure. A barometer is built to detect pressure changes but is generally not regarded as a main hunting tool, it should be used as an extra. One of those things you use just because you can.

Candles

Candles

A very simple and cheap addition to your kit, but still useful. They should be placed in areas thought to be haunted and carefully monitored to detect breezes, Unexplainable breezes that is.

Digital Thermometer

Digital Thermometer

A very useful piece of kit which should be used along side your notebook. Recording temperature changes when something happens can help the accuracy of your investigation. Make sure the temperature changes are unexplainable though.

Digital Camera

Digital Camera

This is usually the most important tool in a hunters ghost hunting equipment. The camera can give evidence when something happens, be used to provide pictures of the thought to be haunted area and often produce orbs after the pictures are developed.

Digital voice recorder

Digital voice recorder

The voice recorder is an important tool for capturing electronic voice phenomena. It should be used by being placed in a thought to be haunted area overnight, or as a general carry around when investigating. The recorder is a tool which wont produce results (such as evp) until after the investigation is over. Prices can range from $50 to $200.

EMF Meter

EMF Meter

These detectors are built to pick up electronic fields over different frequencies. Ghosts are often thought to cause disturbances to electronic fields so this can be a handy piece of kit for detecting possible spirits. Prices are quite attractive as well, they typically range from $25 to $150.

Motion Detectors

Motion Detectors

These can be used in various ways when on an investigation. The most common of which is to set the detectors up in the suspected haunted areas and leave them over night to see if they produce and movement in empty areas. This can not always be a sign of a ghost however, winds and pets are the usual suspects for setting them off, but if the movement cant be explained it can be a good sign of another presence.

Night vision

Night vision

Night Vision equipment can be quite handy. Cheap night vision adapters are available that will attach the scopes to video cameras for around $30. However Night Vision Equipment can be among the most expensive of all ghost hunting equipment. The best choice is monocular or binocular equipment. Binocular are a good choice because they add the benefit of depth perception. Prices can be scary however, they typically range between $250-$4000. You can get some good scopes in the $300 range that work well on video equipment.

Thermal scanner

Thermal scanner

These devices accurately point out cold spots, one of the benefits of using these is they save on time and infrared film. Excellent for use in outside investigations. Average prices range from $250 to $500. Another item that isn't essential but still useful.

Thermal imaging scope

Thermal imaging scope

Similar to the thermal scanner but they allow you to actually see what the scanner detects. Very useful piece of equipment but it comes at a high price, typically around $200 to $900, ouch!

Cheap ghost hunting equipment

Not all hunting tools have to be expensive, some of the most useful and necessary pieces of equipment are things that can often be found around the home, these include:

Note pad

Probably the most useful piece of ghost hunting equipment there is, some form of note pad should be taken on any hunt. Used to log results and details of the investigation.

Powder

Any type of powder, such as talcum powder can be very helpful. Often placed within door ways and places were a ghost is suspected to be. The best methods are to place the powder and leave it over night to see if any disturbances have occurred through it.

Flashlights

Pretty self explanatory. You need them to see, what more can i say?

Wind chimes

Can be a useful tool in place of the candle, also provides the added effect of noise to alert you of movement.

Compass

As ghosts are thought to create electrical disturbances, it is also thought they can create magnetic disturbances, if the compass readings go crazy for no reason, this can be a sign something other worldly is near by.

Control object

Sometime the best way to detect a ghost is simply to ask it to make itself known, if the spirit is willing to cooperate, you will need a control object. This can be anything from a coin to a twig, anything for the ghost to concentrate on.
