Margam Castle, Port Talbot, Wales

Margam Castle

History

Margam Castle in Port Talbot, South Wales, is a beautiful gothic revival manor house, encased in acres of lonely parkland. Built between 1830 and 1840 and commissioned by industrialist Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot, it's many rooms have remained almost empty since a fire broke out in 1977.

Even though the building is less than 2 centuries old, the land it sits on has witnessed 4000 years of history, even as far back as bronze age settlers.

Hauntings

Many different phenomena have been experienced over the years, from disembodied voices, oppressive feelings and dark shadows to unexplainable poltergiest attacks. But who, or what's causing them..?

A previous owner called Emily Charlotte has been seen all over the house, a large dark male presence has been seen in the bedroom approaching unsuspecting guests, and spirits of children have been witnessed in the nursery room. The most aggressive and active spirit is that of former gamekeeper, Robert Scott.

He was murdered by a man named Joseph Lewis in 1898, who shot Scott in the chest with a shotgun. Lewis was eventually hung for his crime, but ever since his murder, Robert Scott has been seen wandering the huge gothic staircase as well as throwing stone and making extremely loud banging noises.

A child of around 4 or 5 accidentally fell through an open window on the upper floor of the house and died in the late 19th century. EVP has even picked up the poor child crying out for his "mama". But all this aside, most mediums think most of the activity is caused by an evil "energy" that dates back much father than the current building... Although what happened on this land centuries ago we'll never know!
