Roseburg, oregon

Roseburg actually has numerous places in the downtown area. It is locally know that there was a indian massacre that happened along the umpqua (ump Quaw) river. I used to live in a house behind our Oregon tool and supply store that we would have spontaneous mishaps that would take place. at different times in the basement we would have sightings of different apparations. and we did find a few pictures where we had seen the ghostly faces in the background.

A little history on the house was it originally was a "Whore house" when it was originally built designed for the men of the railroad. if you look at the back side of oregon tool and supply you can see the large doors that was from loading dock.
when that closed down it was converted into a morgue. which logically would explain the restless spirits.
after that and in its current state was converted into a 4plex apartment complex.

People still reside there.

this is just one of many of the downtown stories.

Eastwood cemetary- the back side of it has an evil entity

Parrot mantion- local legend states that the walls have been know to appear bleeding at a certain time of year trying to scare off any resident. the legend of the home is that the original owner had a down syndrome child and back then they did not know how to deal with children with down syndrome and the child was put out with the livestock. well it is said that one day the child got out of its enclosure and committed murder on his entire family. person to person will put their own twist on the story but ultimatly the child killed his entire family.

several of the businesses downtown will have a story here and there of strange mishaps. it is definately worth looking into.

Parrot House history NEW
by: Anonymous

The Parrot house was never a brothel and never was a family murdered there. Moses Parrot built the house in 1891, his daughter Rosa lived there into the 1950's. It was a residence up until recent years, where it has been turned into a restaurant. It is NOT haunted. lol The walls DO NOT bleed. http://www.co.douglas.or.us/planning/hrrc/regions/pdfs/mosesparrotthouse.pdf

Withstood the test of time NEW

Brilliant architecture is rare today. I always enjoyed looking at this house as a child in the 50's and early 60's. On a recent visit to Roseburg I was overwhelmed with joy that the house is in beautiful condition. Beautifully restored exterior.

From someone who lived in that house... NEW
by: Anonymous

My grandmother owned this house from the late 80's to the early 00's. I lived there during many of my summers off from school. I can tell you 100% that all of the "legends" you hear are FALSE. The house is not haunted, scary, etc. It is very old (from the 1890's) and had a lot of original fixtures (gas lamps, wood cook stove, servant steps, dumb waiter) which probably made it seem creepy and haunted. Please respect the current owners and stay away unless invited. When I lived there we received MANY unwanted visitors and trespassers who would graffiti the walls and steal things. It's an old house - treat it like you would an old relative and have some respect.

crappy legend NEW
by: roseburg native

The house is scary when you are a kid. My cousin (who once lived a few houses down) would try and tell me a witch lived there and kidnapped her baby brother (she didn't have yet) & we had to go rescue him. The house has its own unique aura. People are unsure about. It is older than 1910.1891 was when it was completed. The Parrott family were a happy family and a precious part of Rsbg history. I CANNOT stand to read of ridiculous stories about them and their enchanted home. Let's STOP telling bullshit stories and stick to the actual history. It's a great legend in itself. (OBVIOUSLY, that 'legend' bothers me!)

crappy legend NEW
by: roseburg native

I was born in Roseburg & have wanted that house since I was10. I have researched it as much as I can. Mr. & Mrs. Parrott had 10 children. None of them were reported to be "retarded" their sons were shoe makers like their father. 'Gene' was the sheriff of Rsbg for 20 yrs. His brother Charles was his deputy. They were all interested in raising cattle. All the girls but 1 were school teachers. The other a clerk in a land office in Tucson, Arizona. The Parrott family were a prominent 1st Rsbg family. Respectful & 'proper'. I'm certain of residual energies left in the home. But NO blood from the walls. No murder of the family.Have RESPECT for the memory of one of Rsbg's finest houses. And the family who built it.

when I was about 3 yrs old til I was 5 we lived on the corner of Jackson n rice. at the end of the street is the Parot Mansion. this must have been about 1970. I always was fascinated by the house. I use to walk with my mom on her Avon rout and wonderd why we never went to that house.we also lived in a house on the small street that turns left at the end of Jackson. years later. I don't know the name of the little street. but that's werewe lived when I started the first grade at Rose school. I allways thought the house was kinda spooky and never did see any one go in or out of it. its to my under standing a guy frome wells namend Moses Parot built the house in 1910. although it dose seem older. he was a sho cobler andhad 8 kids. Im glad to see it still there andI hope it remains as it is for ever

crappy legend NEW

Parrott house legend is BULL SHIT. The Parrott family was like any other family of that time. They died old and of natural causes. Look up Rosa Parrott. She lived in that house til she died an old woman.(She was the youngest of the children).whoever's telling this story should be embarrassed to buy into it.
