Naked eyes see orb

Okay, so at a campout, my friend claims that he saw a large ball of light, hovering above the ground. It then proceeded to fade away. It was hovering smootly and it dimmed out, so there isn't the possibility of a flashlight. A lantern, maybe. But not a sound was heard anywhere and it was just him and his friend.
