Moody Brick is a beautiful two story plantation house built before 1855 according to the vertical file at the Scottsboro library. There were serveral slaves, as they had 2500 acres of land to farm. The house itself was built by hand and every brick was hand made by the slaves. This house was also a field hospital for soldiers who fought in the civil war, and the injured were sent by train out of Chattanooga to the house to conveless.

There are at least 3 cemeteries on this property, one belonging to the original family members, but slaves were not buried within that cemetery. It was common knowledge that the overseer was brutal and mean to the slaves. It is also said that every brick that makes up that two story home was made by hand from the slaves.

Union soldiers who died at the house were buried outside of the cemeteries, as they were the enemy. Soldiers who needed operations and lost limbs, had those limbs buried all over the yard and what is now the driveway.

The house has been rumored to be haunted for many, many years.

I have been out to Moody Brick on many occasions and was even given a tour through the grand ole house, and it is absolutely beautiful and full of history.
I was given permission to take photos by the owners mother who would check on the property while repairs were being made. I did not lie, I am a huge history buff and LOVE old architecture. I simply did not mention I am also a paranormal investigator as I wanted to see the beauty of this home inside and out.

These photos were taken by myself in 2003, 2004 and 2009. What I see here in these photos is just too compelling to be ignored. At the time these were taken, no one was living in Moody Brick, it was being restored.
The photos here, I believe, speak for themselves.

Been there NEW
by: Tommy Tomlin

I grew up in Scottsboro. In the early 80's we went there to party. There were pentagrams on the floor as you entered, along with used candles, other cult graffiti. You had to walk on the right side of the stairs closest to the wall due to the deteriorating banister. The cellar still had bolt plates mounted to the wall where the slaves were schackled. You could see the marks from the musket bballs where they fired on the building. That's all I have to say about that publicy, the rest only the old schools know.

Regarding MoodyBrick... NEW
by: Anonymous

I have lived in Hollywood Al my whole life and
Visited this house probably too many! In the late 80s, early 90s the house was definitely vacant, was before any renovation was done, the chains were still attached in the basement where we had heard that they beat the slaves. I am absolutely convinced that MoodyBrick is haunted!! That property holds so many memories, good and bad. I wish it was open to the public.

To the person who said I lied about the house being empty in 2009 and that HIS mother ( owners mother) didn't give me a tour, ummm yes she did and I have pictures of the lady and her husband in the wheel chair so I can prove what I say, can YOU?
Watch who you are calling a liar Sir.

The Brick... NEW
by: Anonymous

I know the couple that used to be the caretakers of the Moody Brick house, and they lived in a trailer next to the big house. I went inside, didn't experience anything haunted, but heard many takes of such. I did see the shackles on the wall downstairs that I was told is where they punished slaves. Also hear about a shadow of a man being hanged in a tree on the property. Last time I went by there, several big dogs ran out nearby he fence as we drove by slowly to show my grandkids. It looks very nice these days, it was lacking back when I had visited inside..

Ghost sight NEW
by: L.Blizzard

When I was a senior in high school ( 1987) a couple buddies and I skipped school one day. Moody Brick was a spot we always visited on our last night ride around. This particular day we happened to drive by, we came in from the front of the house and made the first ninety degree curve and made the second ninety degree curve which put us at the side of the house. We were driving slow not bothering anyone or anything. As I happened to look at the second story window, I saw a dark silhouette come up to the window, as I looked at my friends to see if they too had seen it. The look on their faces told me they did. We all looked back at the same time and the silhouette was there for and instant and then vanished. Needless to Sa I didn't let any grass grow under our feet getting out of the. Believe it or not but we all three seen the same thing .

Moody Brick NEW
by: Elizabeth Bryant Bedford

I really love this house.I spent the night there one time with a friend I went to school with. They were renting the house at time.I can honestly tell you it was the scariest night ever.It was raining and we heard sounds all night! I don't live in Alabama anymore but I went out to see the house one time when I was there for a visit and was so disappointed to see how run down it was. I am so glad to see someone has restored the wonderful piece of history! Wish they would open it for tours.

Be Cautious NEW
by: Anonymous

My brother and I rode by MoodyBrick last year, just to show it to our children. We rode by slowly and big dogs were sent to the gate to frighten us off, along with someone standing on the porch with a very menacing posture. We had been out sight seeing and to Crowe Mtn for apples. I feel the owners have been burdened with the home's so called "haunted" past. It is a beautiful home, I wish we could have enjoyed seeing it with our family.

I remember seeing chains in the basement of the home where slaves were kept. Beautiful old home, even in the 1980's when it was a teenage attraction.

Been there a bunch of times during the night as a teenager. even was dared to spend the night. didn't see a thing out of ordinary. was waiting on balcony upstairs next morning. was rumored floating light in upstairs window you could see when driving up to place. was street lights from area across from field coming back toward tupelo pike. even rumored of car not starting when scared and trying to leave. that's what happens when you floor gas and flood out your car....LOL but really do love taking others up there and scaring them half to death...LOL....even drove up on a KKK meeting one night up there. didn't stay long for it.

Moody Brick NEW
by: Anonymous

As teens we would go down in there. There was a trailer beside the house. No one lived in the big house I heard they were remodeling to make in a bed and breakfast. But with that being said it was in the middle of the night and in that same up stairs window a candle also floats. So the place it not all cool calm and collect. Js

Historical sight NEW
by: David Bogue

There was a painting on the ceiling going down to the basement. It was painted by a Native American who was on his way to Washington, D.C. To paint in either the White House or house of congress. I hope it was not painted over after the 80's when I was last there. I have also spent the night in the place twice and went on several ghost hunts to never encounter anything.

The house is currently occupied and the article states no one was living there when he was there...in 2009 I know that's a lie. I personally know the owners and they do not do tours and her mother has been gone for a few years. Since they are family friends, we have been many times to visit and have never saw anything abnormal
