Dog Lady Island- Monroe Michigan

(Newport, MI)

An old woman lived on the island years ago and, after her husband died, she surrounded herself with many Doberman pinschers. The dogs were there to protect her, but one day they turned on her, ripping out her tongue, leaving her incapable of speech and partially blind. She came to be known as "the Dog Lady."

One day she developed the habit of jumping onto the cars of anyone who dared park near the island. She later was murdered by members of a motorcycle gang who became the new occupants of the island, and they allegedly kept Dog Lady's body in a coffin on the island.

Because she only can grunt, she sounds like a dog and even eats off the ground with them. Her ghost still roams the land tormenting those who trespass.

There was a telephone number we called that was said to be Dog Lady's. A slight slure of an old womans voice was heard and the line went dead.

THE TRUE STORY NEW
by: Anonymous

1943-My Grandfather was 18 years old. And he remembered this event like it was yesterday. A hitchhiker was walking through monroe on S. Telegraph Rd., a car with 4 young men pulled over and offered her a ride, she accepted, her worst mistake. They kept her restrained in an old shed on the island and rapped her repeatedly for 2 weeks. After the second week when they returned to use her again, she was not in the shed, they searched frantically for hours untill they found her at the other end of the island. Fearing going to jail for their crime, they chained her to the inside of the shed. They continued the abuse week after week, and so she wouldnt escape again, they cut out her tongue and smashed her ankles so she could not scream or walk. Further abuse continued, including, being sexualy abused by various breeds of large dogs owned by the young men and their friends. Eventually she became impregnated, she further gave birth to a, well, little girl/dog. The combination of all the young men and animals sexual abuse created what we know today as the legend of dag lady island. The abuse stopped and the young men left her and her baby for dead, never to return to the island, except for one of the men, secretly he supplied her with food, clothing, and even built a small shelter for warmth in the winter months. Eventually years later, the mother died and the young hairy disfigured girl remained on the island living in the wild as an animal type being. Many people have claimed that they have seen her and been on the island looking for proof that she exists, but in reality, there is only two people who have ever seen her since the death of her mother, the one man who had a certain way of communicating with her and continued supplying her with things he thaught she needed, and his grandchild who was taught the way they communicated. The old man eventually died, and the grandchild carried on his commitment to Dog Lady! She is now seventy-two years old and living in the wild, which is all she has ever known. So you can believe all the stories and rumors you have ever heard, or you can accept the fact that you or anyone you know will never see Dog Lady no matter how hard you try. But as the years go by, tell the true story to your children and grandchildren if they ever mention her. I am now 46 years old and my kids have braught up stories they've heard about the Dog Lady, and i have told them the truth about the legendary Dog Lady. Im not sure if they believe my version or not, but someday i will have to explain the way of communicating with her, just in case she outlives me. Afterall theres a very good chance that she is my aunt, and we share the same blood, well to an extent, and i promissed that i would keep the secret, and carry on my grandfathers final reguest from me. But eventually, i will have to pass the duty to someone else, and teach them what ive known for many years.

Location of Island NEW

Dog lady island is not in Newport, it is on east Dunbar road east of LaPlaisence Rd. in Monroe Michigan, that area has changed a lot but 40 to 50 years ago I could deffinately believe this story. We used to go out there when we were in High school and you could here her dogs, it was scary as hell on that road and all marsh and swamp back there. A class mate drove off the road and was killed supposedly to avoid hitting her or perhaps her ghost. This would be a good one to investigate.
